A Walk in Banff by artbypaulfisher A Walk in Banff by artbypaulfisher
Banff is a truly beautiful location and easily one of my personal favourites that I've visited. Ever since I saw this scene for the first time during a holiday in January 2010, I wanted to draw it. It's been through multiple revisions and several complete restarts in the time since then (which can be seen, along with the photograph that I took that I used as my reference, in my attached WIP), but I'm finally going to call this one finished.

Drawing of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Banff, Alberta, Canada

Drawing, Coloured Pencil on Paper - 16th November to 14th December, 2012
35.6cm x 28.0cm (14" x 11")

Daler-Rowney Artist's Watercolour Pencils (Used Dry)
Derwent Watercolour Pencils (Used Dry)
Daler-Rowney Fine Grain - Drawing Paper
Total Time: 40 hours (more on previous attempts)
Scanned with Canon CanoScan LiDE 210

Thank you very much. The location is quite incredible. I saw a real sky close to these colours there at 7 in the morning, right before a day of snowboarding a few years back, good times :)

You've translated the beauty of what you have seen, with a voice that has its own character, my friend

Thank you for sharing such beautiful art

Awesome artwork! Beautiful colors and net lines. The sky is fascinating and I liked to examine all the details. After seeing your drawing I want to visit this place :)

Thank you. I'm really disappointed with the scan of this one. It looks so much softer and nicer in real life, but no matter how I scan or adjust it, it seems to come out too bright and shiny. I was stuck on the sky for a long time with this (as it was just white and grey in my reference photograph) so I'm glad it turned out ok :)

The scanner is the biggest enemy of artists! But you have no reason to worry, your work looks great :) And it was a real magic what you have done with a gray sky in the photo!
